Why Chicago Screws?
First, lets discuss what Chicago Screws are. Illustrations are best, so here's a picture: What is Synthetic "Leather"?
Leather alternatives have been available for some time. They are most often used for bags, purses etc, but have now transitioned to the dog equipment market by way of equine product suppliers. It is usually nylon or polyester webbing coated with a PVC coating. It looks a LOT like leather! It is not a bad product, however our biggest concern with using such a material is its performance when wet. It is easy to clean when dirty/muddy, but extremely slippery! Having trained dogs in the pouring rain, we know that grip (i.e. on a leash when doing bite work) is of utmost concern, especially when safety is a factor. Additionally, it still has the tendency (like nylon webbing does), to give one's hand "rug burn" if pulled thru quickly while wet. Our advice? Stick with real leather for all weather conditions. Is 'Amish Made' better? Simply, No. Now, let's clarify this statement. Custom K9 Design strongly believes that the quality of product is directly related to the ability of the craftsman. Do you get the same customer service from every every employee at every location of any one particular "chain" store? No, of course not! Thus it is unwise to assume that because it is 'Amish Made' it will be a superior product. Because each craftsman will provide a different level of crafstmanship, we recommend you make your decision based on each individual product. Unfortunately, you cannot always put your hands on each product, so we encourage you to take a close look at details shown in the pictures. Are the edges dyed to match the top and bottom? Are they rough edged, or rounded and smooth? Is the hardware solid, or plated? or, do they even tell you? Next, compare price. We competitively price our products to match our quality. Are you paying as much for their "entry-level" stuff as you would to get products from our superior "Pro-Paw" line? Ultimately, we stand behind our products 100%, because we 100% make them ourselves. If you ever have a question, concern or comment about our items simply contact us and we'll provide you with any details you need. |
